Contrary is a venture fund that identifies the world’s top early-career engineers, designers, and product minds, connects them with a close-knit, career-long support community, and invests in the companies they start or join.
We're backed by the founders of Tesla, Reddit, Facebook, and many more iconic companies.
What's in it for you
What's special about Contrary is the breadth and impact of our Talent community. Not only will you work with engineers, designers, and everything in between, you'll make a serious dent on the career direction of members. Since we focus on university and early-career talent, the roles we help members secure determine the beginning of their professional life — it's powerful and deeply rewarding work.
People we've previously worked with have loved the caliber of talent we associate with. You'll spend your time talking with and sourcing the most talented early-career builders from across the country. You will be reporting to Zack Baker and will work regularly with the Head of Platform, Nina Stepanov, and Partner Will Robbins.
What you'll do
You'll source candidates — from both within our network and externally with a strong eye for diversity, quality, and long-term fit
You'll schedule and conduct introduction calls with candidates for both Contrary Talent and our partner companies
You'll interview potential Contrary Talent members, ultimately helping make decisions about who will join Talent cohorts
You'll spend time building strong personal relationships with Talent network members, and growing your network of contacts within the tech and venture landscape
You'll work on a lot of things that we don't know about yet. We're growing quickly, and your job will likely evolve throughout your tenure
0-3 years of experience in either recruiting, sales, or at a growth-stage startup
Excellent communicator, with a passion for people and service
Naturally curious — you enjoy research and like to hunt for hidden gems
Confidence managing searches for up 10+ roles at a time, once fully onboarded
High levels of responsiveness and conscientiousness; follow-through is important to us
Confidence working remotely and independently
Comfortable working with or learning the classic Silicon Valley tech stack (Zoom, Slack, Airtable, G Suite, Notion, etc.)
Education Requirements: None. High-quality education is of course a plus, but half of our team dropped out of college! We are very amenable to alternative backgrounds.
