Introducing our Community Spotlights, where we feature a member in our Talent Community! Today, we’re featuring our very own Social Media & Marketing Intern, Kimmy Lac.

OR Team: Hey Kimmy! Tell us about yourself.

Kimmy: Hi! My name is Kimberly (Kimmy) Lac and I’m currently the Social Media & Marketing Intern here at OneReq/URx. I’m an incoming third-year at the University of California, Riverside pursuing my Bachelor of Arts in Media and Cultural Studies and minoring in Marketing. My previous experience includes being the Social Media Intern at Wonsulting and being the Vice President of Marketing at UC Riverside’s chapter of Alpha Kappa Psi, a professional co-ed business fraternity. As for my more personal background, I’m from Santa Barbara, California, and a first-generation college student.

OR Team: How did you get involved with OneReq/URx?

Kimmy: I joined the OneReq team while I was interning at Wonsulting. Char Delapena, our Executive Director, saw Wonsulting’s social media content and asked me to hop on the team to help with OneReq’s online marketing right before URx Forward in April this year. Since then, I’ve been a part of the community ever since and have loved being involved.

OR Team: What have you contributed to the Talent Community?

Kimmy: Being a first-generation college student, and Vietnamese-American, I really align with OneReq’s initiatives and values. I’ve greatly enjoyed contributing projects in order to grow the Talent Community and be a part of building an inclusive and diverse workforce for everyone. Some of my projects include ideating and executing multiple social media campaigns such as URx Forward, Talent Development Program, InternHacks, and Slack AMAs. I also gather content and design the URx monthly newsletter. Something I love about working at OneReq is that I get to learn more about social media and marketing every day while being a part of driving change. Seeing all the talent professionals in the community engaging with the content I’ve made makes me really optimistic about a more inclusive future for everyone.

OR Team: What do you do outside of OneReq?

Kimmy: Right now, I’ve been applying for Summer internships in social media marketing. I also just finished summer school working on upper-division classes for my major. In addition, I’ve been building my personal website and portfolio to showcase the work I’ve made throughout my professional career. As for school, this upcoming fall quarter, I’ll be a Peer Mentor for first-year students at the College of Humanities, Arts, and Social Sciences at UC Riverside as well as a New Member Mentor in Alpha Kappa Psi. Lately, I’ve really been into podcasts, my favorite genres are comedy, lifestyle/advice, and news!

OR Team: How do you contribute to your own community?

Kimmy: Most recently, I was invited back to the company that hired me for my first internship in marketing to speak about how we can drive diversity and inclusion within the Santa Barbara education system. My first internship was at Partners in Education, a non-profit organization that supports underprivileged students, donates technology to schools, and runs a volunteer program within the Santa Barbara School District. I was offered to be a panelist at their most recent Board Member Retreat. As the nation is not only battling a pandemic revealing racial and class inequalities, and fighting for justice with the Black Lives Matter movement, I thought it was important to share my thoughts with prominent community members in my hometown. Being one of the few Vietnamese-Americans in my local community growing up, diversity and inclusion have always been important to me, which is another reason why I’m so happy to be at OneReq.
